Devlog #5: Making Progress

Another week, another devlog.

In today's devlog we have exciting things to show you like cool VFX, multiplayer integration and more.

The Artists

New Meshes

There have been amazing additions regarding the meshes. With the addition of the Alien enemy, you can now see the three characters standing side by side in the image below.

The car also has some extra detail added and resized a bit, because we thought last time the car didn't have the right ratios.

The overall environment also has additions such as the water tower and the haybales to give the scene more variety, but of course we are still in the beginning stages, so there is a lot more to come.

VFX

A game would never be complete without visual effects. The left effect represents an ice grenade exploding and the right one a flamethrower that will be mowing down enemies. We haven't implemented these just yet into our game, but maybe next week you can see these beautiful effects in action.

The Developers

Shooting

The players now have the ability to shoot a bullet using the right trigger. The bullets don't interact with the world yet, but it gives you an idea of how the shooter-like game will play out.

Dash Ability

The first ability we've added is to Slanky Tim. Like mentioned previously, the dash ability allows him to quickly move around the map. In our prototype we still had some issues with the dash not well.. dashing quite as we wanted, but now that's it's implemented with a much sturdier structure, it works pretty well.

Multiplayer

Implementing multiplayer inside c++ brought a lot of problems with it, but we managed to get it up and running for the build. Just like in the prototype, one controller controls Slanky Tim and the other controls Big Tim. The camera currently just follows around Slanky, but of course this will be changed soon so both players can actually see themselves moving around.

Conclusion

This concludes this week's devlog. We are of course planning on adding much more like the camera system, implement more abilities and laying out the level so we are hoping you are looking forward to that, since we definitely are.

It was great to see you again, and I hope you enjoyed our 5th devlog! Stay tuned to see our new developments.
